Comparison Ofwater Vapor Measurements between the Satellite Limb Sounder Mipas/envisat and the Airborne Microwave Radiometer Amsos

چکیده
To validate our ten year middle atmospheric water vapor dataset obtained by the airborne microwave radiometer AMSOS we compared its datas to the satellite instruments MIPAS on ENVISAT and MLS on Aura. AMSOS has a dry bias of up to 15%. Beside the offset the error is in the range of±10%. Surprisingly the offset with regard to the infrared instrument MIPAS is twice as big as to the microwave instrument MLS. This fact leads us to assume a problem in the spectral parameters of the different spectral ranges.

From July 2002 to March 2004 the Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding (MIPAS) aboard the European Space Agency’s Environmental Satellite (Envisat) measured nearly continuously mid infrared limb radiance spectra. These measurements are utilised to retrieve the global distribution of the chlorofluorocarbon CFC11 by applying a new fast forward model for Envisat MIPAS and an ac...

Stratospheric O3 profiles obtained by the satellite limb sounders Aura/MLS, ENVISAT/MIPAS, ENVISAT/GOMOS, SAGE-II, SAGE-III, UARS/HALOE are compared to coincident O3 profiles of the ground-based microwave radiometer SOMORA in Switzerland. Data from the various measurement techniques are within 10% at altitudes below 45 km. At altitudes 45–60 km, the relative O3 differences are within a range of...

The diurnal variation of HOCl and the related species ClO, HO2 and HCl measured by satellites has been compared with the results of a one-dimensional photochemical model. The study compares the data from various limbviewing instruments with model simulations from the middle stratosphere to the lower mesosphere. Data from three submillimetre instruments and two infrared spectrometers are used, n...

MIPAS is a very high spectral resolution sounder (0.025 cm wavenumber resolution) onboard ESA's Envisat satellite. It provides 59,605 spectral points or channels in 5 bands in the range 685-2410 cm. In the nominal scanning configuration, it gives one scan about every 5o latitude for 17 tangent altitudes between 6 and 68 km. The field of view (FOV) is 3 km in the vertical and 30 km in the horizo...
